We made what's hopefully the final frame assembly, with slots in the side pieces for chain tensioning, and transmissions mounted. Hubs and sprockets are now on the wheels, although we're still waiting for a shipment with the rest of the sprockets. More arm design today, too.

We wrote letters to our team sponsors thanking them for their contributions and updating them on our progress.
We planned how to mount encoders to the drivetrain and designed the parts that are needed to hold (and protect) the encoders.
We talked about arm designs, including looking at LEGO models built to scale with matching straw tetras. Those tetras are large! The arm plan is finalized and a part list is ready. The arm will have a pneumatically controlled shoulder joint, a van door motor for the elbow, and a globe motor at the wrist. We'll pick up tetras by putting a "poker" into the interior of the tetra and lifting.

The software team planned autonomous strategies, started working on the CMUcam, encoded pin locations, and created and downloaded code for simple robot driving.
The electronics team created a layout, cut plywood for a board, and marked locations for parts.

The software team worked with the CMUcam.

The drivetrain team has nearly completed our 6-wheel drivetrain! Today we added wheels, hubs, sprockets, chain tensioners, and most of the chain. A simple test showed things moving nicely when power was applied to the motors.
The arm team started making calculations to determine things like arm mounting position and lengths for the segments.

We've now got most of the materials for the arm. After a few more calculations, we'll be ready to cut the metal beams and start assembling.
The electronics team tweaked
the board layout to add current sensors, marked it with new hole
locations, drilled holes, and started mounting components.![]() |
We also started selecting controls for
the Operator Interface.![]() |
